Emily Anderson
M.Ed., Registered Psychologist
I have a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology from the University of Alberta and am a Registered Provisional Psychologist. I use a client-centered approach to therapy with the goal of helping people explore their sense of ‘self’ and the development of the ‘self’. The ‘self’ changes over time and can be difficult to consolidate with emotions, experiences, and trauma. Said another way, I hope to invite questions such as ‘who am I?’, ‘what happened?’, ‘have I changed, or do I need to?’, and ‘is change possible?’. I hope to provide an honest and safe space, fostering courage for you to navigate life and create the life you want.
Using an integrative, client-centered approach, I combine elements of Emotion Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Narrative Therapy, and other therapeutic models to formulate an approach on a person-by-person basis.
I have experience working with individuals suffering from depression, anxiety, emotion dysregulation; parents of neurodiverse children; young adults and adults navigating life transitions; those experiencing grief; and couples who desire to strengthen their relationship.
One of my areas of interest is working with and providing support to parents and adult family members of those with a disability, disorder, and/or mental health struggles. I believe that those who support loved ones benefit from support too. I am also passionate about education and information - I hope to both educate, and be educated by clients in a way that helps us develop as empathetic and informed individuals.
I would be honoured to work with you.
